Last night we rang in 2010! A new year means that a fresh batch of PGA Tour Rookies will be debuting under the bright lights in the next few weeks.
18 players will be joining the PGA Tour this season. Nine qualified via their performances on the Nationwide Tour in 2009; nine qualified at the 2009 Q-School held at Bear Lakes Country Club in West Palm Beach.
Some of these names might be more familiar than others; perhaps at the end of 2010 we’ll know each a little bit better.
Here are the nine Nationwide Tour graduates:
- Blake Adams (Age 34, PGA Tour Starts = 0)
Adams finished the 2009 Nationwide Tour season at #3 on the money list, setting a Nationwide Tour record for earnings without a victory ($399,749) - Derek Lamely (29, 4)
Lamely was a rookie on the Nationwide Tour in 2009 and finished the season at #4 on the money list - Josh Teater (30, 1)
Teater was also a rookie on the Nationwide Tour last season and finished at #7 on the money list - Cameron Percy (35, 1)
Percy brought Nationwide Tour experience to his 2009 season, having played on tour in 2005 and in 2008. That experience paid dividends as Percy finished at #8 on the Nationwide Tour money list - Matt Every (24, 6)
A walk-on at the University of Florida, Every went on to become a collegiate All-American. Last season, he won the Nationwide Tour Championship to land at #10 on the money list and earned his PGA Tour card for 2010 - Garth Mulroy (31, 1)
Mulroy played the Nationwide Tour from 2007 through last year’s 2009 season finishing at #14 on the 2009 money list - Jerod Turner (34, 0)
2009 Soboda Classic Champion Jerod Turner
A self-taught player who has never had a golf lesson in his life, Turner was a conditional player on the Nationwide Tour last season.
With five weeks remaining, he stood at #188 on the money list when he was a last-minute alternate into the WNB Golf Classic. He finished T7 there which led to a win the following week at the Soboda Classic. The next week he finished T6 at the Chattanooga Classic and wound up the season at #15 on the Nationwide Tour money list - Alex Prugh (25, 1)
A two-time All-American at the University of Washington, Prugh played 24 events during the 2009 Nationwide Tour and finished at #16 on the money list - Chris Baryla (27, 6)
Baryla only started 14 events during the 2009 Nationwide season, but made the cut in 13 of them finishing the year at #19 on the money list
Check out tomorrow’s post for details on the 2009 Q-School cardmembers.
