(July 7, 2009) — Get ready to program your DVRs and VCRs on Sunday afternoon, July 12th!
CBS is rebroadcasting a 1963 match between Jack Nicklaus and Sam Snead.
From the venerable Shell Wonderful World of Golf series, this match pairs a 23 year-old Nicklaus (who would become the winner of more Major championships, 18, than any other golfer) against a 50 year-old Snead (who owns more PGA Tour wins, 82, than any other golfer).
It has been close to 50 years since this match was filmed and aired, and it hasn’t been viewed by the public since. The match took place at Pebble Beach Golf Links and–semi-spoiler alert!!–is decided by a birdie on the 18th hole.
Nicklaus vs. Snead Revisited will be aired in high-definition at 2:00PM Eastern time leading into CBS’ final-round coverage of the John Deere Classic. The program will also include an exclusive interview with Nicklaus as he reminisces about the contest, and will feature swing tips from both players.
A definite must-see, and should be a definite must-record if you are able. As Tiger Woods continues to stalk both Nicklaus’ Major record and Snead’s victory record, seeing these two icons work their craft will be an hour very-well spent.
